Owen Merrill Bauman

Wow, what a crazy weekend we've had. Shanna's due date was originally January 26, but when we had the 20 week ultrasound, the ultrasound tech estimated a January 17 date. But the doctor decided to keep the original due date.  So when Owen decided to join us on January 13, you could say he was 2 weeks early, or just 4 days early, depending on which medical person you talk to.

I went to work on Friday as usual.  After work, I stopped at Lowe's to pick up a few things, and while I was there, I took a few minutes to walk around and look at a few other things.  No rush. When I got home, Shanna casually mentioned she felt a different type of pain, and had noticed it throughout the day.  But she didn't think much of it. I thought something was up.  But we went on with getting dinner ready. While making dinner, I'm thinking of all the things I need to get into the car to go to the hospital.
During dinner, these "pains" kept coming, and I would sneak a peak at the clock.  10-15 minutes apart.  After dinner I got the things together while Shanna rested.  Around 8pm she called her friend to come watch Aiden and Stella.  At 8:40pm we were in the car heading to hospital, which is about 15 miles away. God allowed us to hit most of the lights green on our way to the interstate.  Then, when we were at our last light about to turn onto the road next to parking garage, Shanna let out a pretty good yell and said something like "you need to get me in there now."  Uh-oh.
So we went down a level in the garage, and as I was coming around to help her out, she said her water broke, and didn't think she could make it to the elevator and was ready to push.  Um, no. That's not the plan. And not in the van.  (Crazy thing is, later on Saturday, Shanna talks about the jeep.  We didn't ride in the jeep. I guess she was so focused on other things, she didn't realize what car we rode in.) There were no wheel chairs in the garage, so I looked at her and said "you have to make it to the elevator".  I was a little freaked out.  She said I had some panic in my face.  You think so??? God gave her extra strength, and she made it to the elevator pretty quick, and upon leaving the elevator and walking through a door way to the women's clinic area, she said she could feel Owen. This is about 9:05/9:10pm.  We didn't make it to the labor and delivery room. Owen was born at 9:15pm in the triage room.  Our mid-wife doctor was able to meet us there to deliver.  We were in the recovering room around 10:30pm. Crazy!

One more red light on the way in, it might have been a whole different story.  I look at all this, and think of my prayers recently that God would allow this delivery to happen in His perfect timing, not on our plan or schedule. That's what happened. Some say it was cutting it close, which it was, but it was also God's timing.  Friday night, so I have Saturday and Sunday off work to be in the hospital.  Very little labor time at home, and no laboring at hospital.  It all worked out.

Shanna is recovering great. Owen is healthy.  No concerns or side affects from Shanna's surgery have been seen in him.

6 pounds, 12 ounces

Aiden and Stella came for a visit yesterday.  By the end of the visit, they were fighting over who got to hold Owen next.
Aiden - "What type of prank should we play on Owen first?"

Stella is excited to be a big sister.

Aiden is proud, can't you tell?

"Hi world!"
More pictures to come soon, I'm sure. Shanna may post some of her version later. Praise God for a quick delivery, healthy baby, and a great recovery for Shanna so far. We look forward to introducing Owen to everyone.

I love that story! Not only did God give Shanna some extra strength, it sounded like He gave quite a bit to you too, Brian!
